For years, there has been a product in the market called ‘Leg Kick Pad’ or ‘Thai Suitcase’, which is used to train low kicks. Just as the name suggests, this pad is made like a suitcase in a rectangular block shape. However, it has one major problem. It wobbles and displaces with every kick, creating an uneasy twist on the wrist of the trainer and a hesitation to kick full strength by the kicker. It is also difficult to target your kicks and concentrate on one area.
The design engineers at aries came up with a solution to this problem. We made a curved leg kick pad made out of injection molded polyurethane foam. It has a crescent moon shaped inner curve and a semi spherical shaped outer curve that meet at both ends of the pad. The unique curvatures are geometrically adjusted so that kicks from any angle have their impact concentrated to the center of the pad. In addition we created vertical air pockets on the inner curvature, that ‘flex on impact’ to absorb most of the shock, allowing for most intense training with least strain and fatigue for the trainer.
